On todays podcast we talk with the man who helped formulate a new Recreational Angling Strategy for Manitoba. Derek Kroeker, the eastern regional fisheries manager, talks about why changes are needed to protect the world-class fishery that exists in the province.
These changes include reduced limits, protection of trophy fish and year round angling seasons for some popular species. With more and more pressure on walleye stocks, the province also wants to provide more protection through an extended closed season in the spring.
It is a well thought out, comprehensive list of needed changes. You can review the document and provide feedback to the province until June 30th of this year. The changes are scheduled for 2023.
