Friend Don “Sticky” Stokotelny loves to fish lake trout in the summer. One of his favourite destinations is Clearwater Lake in The Pas. Last week he and his daughter headed up for a couple of days to enjoy both the weather and the fishing. Sticky says they found the lake trout positioned at the 50 foot level slamming into 5 inch ciscoes. By ripping spoons through them the two had a day to remember with double headers the norm. He says they lost track of the number of fish landed. He was able to stay on the fish by using the front troll motor and working through the massive schools of fish.
DUCK MOUNTAINS:
Sticky also says the rainbow trout fishing in the Duck Mountains has been real good on East Blue and Beautiful lakes. He attributes the improvement to a sucker removal program that was implemented through the work of Swan Valley Sport Fishing Inc and the Intermountain group. This has allowed for better and quicker growth of the rainbows in the lake. This fall Beautiful Lake will give up some of the walleye it produces to help stock other lakes in the Ducks. I will be up in the Ducks next week to work with some young anglers at the Swan Sport Fishing camp on Wellman Lake.
