Editors Note: This will be our last report before the end of 2024. I wanted to thank everyone who has contributed over the year! It does take some work to put it together but it is one of our most popular features .I would also like to congratulate Wes David and his sidekick and cameraman Chuck McPherson for finishing off Season 9 of Fishing the Wild West TV show. It will begin airing once again on The Sportsmen Channel and Wild TV December 30th!
Wishing everyone the best for a great holiday season and see you in 2025!
MANITOBA
Some seriously cold weather has made for good ice conditions in most areas despite some heavy snowfall, especially in the north and western parts of the province. It might be a great year to own a snowmobile or ATV to remain mobile out on the ice.
Jay Siemens and crew are up at Wekusko Falls Lodge to film a series of videos. Jay is a content creator for Hunt/Fish Manitoba and on this weeks episode he and the boys have a context to see who can catch the largest pike. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
SASKATCHEWAN
Ice fishing is going full bore in the Wheat Province as cold temperatures have opened the floodgates for anglers to venture out on snowmachines and ATV’s. Daryl Gilbert gives ice anglers some tips on how to rig an snowmobile to make it more efficient on the ice. He heads out on Lake Diefenbaker for walleye.
ALBERTA – WES DAVID, FISHING THE WILD WEST TV
Once again, mild winter weather conditions have many central and southern ice anglers waiting for thicker ice. Northern Alberta ice anglers have had cooler weather and have been posting some great early ice walleye and trout photos. However, I’m sure we will see more central and southern Alberta ice anglers venturing out over the holidays.
Behind the scenes, a lot is going on. Sports shows across western Canada are booking booths and show management from various sports shows has said floor space is filling up with hunting and fishing product, conservation booths, lodges, guides, outfitters, and so much more. Canadian hunting and fishing lodges are also gearing up for the U.S. shows south of the border. I have had the privilege of being booked at the Great Rockies Sport Show in Billings, Montana, to give seminars on fishing in Canada. There are a variety of Canadian guides and lodges attending the show such as Stockman’s Lodge, out of northern Saskatchewan, G & S Marina Outfitters out of southern Saskatchewan, and many more lodges from Saskatchewan. And you can’t forget to mention, the Canadian hunting industry is preparing for the world-famous Shot Show in Las Vegas from January 21-24.
