HISTORY IN THE MAKING – THE 1st CANADIAN TO WIN THE SUPERBOWL OF BASS FISHING!

When Gussy invited me down to Bassmaster Classic a month ago I thought about it for about a week. I looked up airline flights but it would’ve taken about the same time as driving. So I got friend  Darrin  Bohonis to come along as my photographer.

It turned out to be one of the best decision I have made in my career in this industry.

Gussy and I go back a long ways. I first heard of Gussy a bit through the KBI Bass tournament. He then started submitting articles to one of the magazines I wrote for. When I took over as Editor of Hooked Magazine I made sure Gussy would continue to write articles for us. As the years stretched on (15th Anniversary) Gussy would make sure to get Publisher Kevin Stobbe and I on the water once a year. That’s just the kind of guy he is.

CULMINATION OF HARD WORK AND PROFESSIONALISM

This was my first Classic and it was an eye opener to see the respect that Gussy has from all the people in the industry including the other anglers on the Elite tour. Believe you me, Gussy winning the Classic was a popular one!

The popularity didn’t surprise me that much given how special a person he is. This was truly a win for one of the nice guys as Dave Mercer pointed out during the final weigh in

 

As I update this story we are driving the 22 hours back to Winnipeg. Unfortunately we are going from 25 Celsius to -24 Celsius!
