EDITORS NOTE: Hooked contributor Glenn McDonald has grown up in Northwestern Ontario. I can think of no better person to introduce our readers to this magical part of the world. Glenn shares some incredible insight in what this great destination has to offer, so much so that we have put it into a two part series. Here is the second installment which gives you options on were to stay. This is especially timely as school breaks for the summer.
Blue Lake provincial park is one of the premier parks in all of Ontario, and books up fairly quickly. As a family vacation destination, it’s hard to argue with Blue Lake Park. Only minutes away from amazing lakes for a day of fishing, and the beach at Blue Lake will keep the kids occupied for hours.
Both Indian Lake and Canyon Lake are home to lodges that offer a true family experience.
Indian Lake Lodge
Located on the east side of the Indian Lake system, just a short ten minute drive from Vermilion Bay. Owned and operated by Lance and Cheryl Delorme, and their five children. Lance grew up in the area and has fished the Indian Chain his entire life. Cheryl has been in the area for close to twenty years and truly loves the outdoors. Indian Lake Lodge is a family fishing paradise. A private beach, complete with water toys and kayaks, games in the lodge and free wifi will keep the kids busy all day.
World class fishing is just off the dock. No long boat rides to get to the spots needed here. Local hotspot “5th Ave and Pine St” is just around the corner and has been a landmark with its street corner sign marking the spot for decades. Some of my personal best musky fishing comes within sight of camp, and we fish a spot we call “Lance’s reef”, that should give you an idea of how close to camp it is.
Fishing adventure or family vacation? Do both at Indian Lake Lodge.

Canyon Lake Lodge
Family owned and operated by John and Karen Howanietz, Canyon Lake Lodge is a rustic slice of heaven far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Set on the north shore of the main basin of Canyon Lake, your vacation starts on a sand beach and can only get better from there.
Not just an angling destination, there are hiking trails to a fantastic waterfall, you can boat under two tunnels, and numerous beaches around the lake offer secluded private time. You can visit the Indian Residential School memorial and learn about some local history, and pay respect to those that perished there.
The fishing is second to none, and is one of our favorite lakes to fish. Of all the species, Musky is our primary target and we have had some amazing days on Canyon Lake.
Looking for a quiet, rustic adventure vacation for the family? Check out Canyon Lake Lodge, you will not be disappointed.
