CAN GUSSY PULL IT OFF? OF COURSE HE CAN!
Over the last three days we have been mixing with media all over the world. Many are in disbelief on what is happening. “Why is the fishing so hard?” many have asked, including the majority of the anglers who are trying just to catch a limit of five bass or even one bass.
Jeff Gustafson has had unwavering confidence in his pattern since I did a podcast with him two weeks ago. Which you can find beside this article. Nothing changed when I interviewed him on Media Day on Thursday.
On Day One things went according to plan and he had his five fish by 10:30 in the morning. He was just over a pound in the lead.
With the weather changing overnight with rain, lightning and thunder many thought the largemouth bite would turn on. For a few it did. John Cox manage to catch the second biggest bag of the day.
TOUGHER DAY FOR GUSSY
Jeff had a much tougher time to catch his five fish limit. He actually had to go to his third spot and landed a real nice bass around noon to fill out his limit. He still had two fish in the well under three pounds and he spent the last two and half hours try to upgrade. Towards the end of the day he did just that, landing a three pound eight ounce smallmouth to boost his lead. So Jeff will go into Day 3 with a decent lead. His 10 fish total is almost six pounds ahead of the rest. Jeff had the biggest bag of Day Two though he had to work most of the day to get the weight he wanted.
Jeff got to weigh in earlier today , which should really help him get a good nights sleep. (hopefully) He has a flood of friends and family at the event or on their way down. To put it in perspective, he would be the only Canadian to win the Classic and just the second international winner.
We meet up with Jeff after weigh in.
So if you want to probably watch history made tune in to Bassmaster Live tomorrow and cheer Gussy on!
