The Red River section north of Lockport Dam to its delta is well known to anglers in Manitoba as a fall hotspot. The annual greenback walleye migration draws anglers from far and wide who ply the shorelines and community holes in the hopes of landing a world-class trophy fish. Hooking into a giant walleye surpassing the 28inch (71cm) Master Angler benchmark is actually more of an expectation than just plain angler optimism during the height of the run in October. Once the days start to get shorter and the nights noticeably begin to cool off, both anglers and the fish…
Florida convention billed as the premier showcase for latest innovations In early July, my friend Kevin Stobbe and I headed to Orlando, Fla., for the annual International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST). ICAST, presented by the American Sportfishing Association, features exhibitors from all around the globe and is billed as the premier showcase for the latest innovations in fishing gear, accessories and apparel. Held at the massive Orange County Convention Center, it was our second year at the event and it took us two days to cover the area. Media are given an early look at the new product…
There was a ton of confusion this spring among anglers concerning the closure on the Winnipeg River of Lake Sturgeon. Last week the province came out with a two page document outlining the current guidelines concerning this issue. Here is part of that release “Sustainable Development continues to assess Lake Sturgeon populations. While populations have grown despite incidental catch and release, more information is required to understand the impacts of the practice on Lake Sturgeon, including how the populations might respond to increased angling pressure. This information will be used to determine when the closure may be relaxed or lifted.…

On a recent drive-to fishing trip to Q Lake Lodge in the Eastern Region of Manitoba, we hit a smoking hot bite for walleyes and smallmouth bass. Targeting textbook mid-summer walleye structure proved to be all we needed to get into schools of chunky fish with a few big ones thrown in. Casting lures to rocky shorelines resulted in toe-to-toe battles with tons of three to four pound plus bass. https://youtu.be/bI6Y2DRvMRQ Originally posted on TravelMB Hunt/Fish Youtube channel
https://youtu.be/JUINtY2vAWM The Northern Region of Manitoba is well known for having some of the best trophy lake trout fishing in Canada. One of the premiere drive-to lakes in the region is Clearwater Lake just north of the town of The Pas. Master Angler fish hitting the 35inch benchmark are commonly caught here, with the chance of hooking into a lunker laker eclipsing the 40inch mark possible at any time. On a recent trip there, I headed out with popular guide and lodge owner Jim Lorden to target late spring lakers on this massive lake. Carpenter’s Clearwater Lodge I arrived…
By HuntFishMB Contributor – Chris Chorney As fast moving water begins ripping through tributaries, providing superb spawning grounds across the province, there’s no better excuse for calling in sick, gathering up the crew, and heading down to the Whitemud River. Carving its way through the southern end of Manitoba, this often overlooked watercourse emptying into Lake Manitoba’s south basin is a spring-time hot spot for large concentrations of massive walleyes. Located only a few miles north of Westbourne off Hwy.16, Sportsman’s Corner provides bait, tackle, fishing licences, and a public boat launch that leads to an amazing day of non-stop…
